In reply to I need some of your suggestion about..., posted by your#1fan on November 25, 2007, at 15:12:18
I've made some suggestions about this, so this will be short: you've had trouble with Strattera because it was prescribed with Prozac. That combination is contraindicated. Why not try switching from Prozac to another drug which is NOT contraindicated with Strattera and trying the Strattera again?
Seriously -- Strattera can be a very helpful, very effective medication. It's worth giving it a real try -- and if your doctor prescribes drugs which are contraindicated in combination, it might be worth getting a second opinion.
If that suggestion does not meet your approval, you might also consider trying a TCA instead of Prozac. Notriptyline comes to mind. I'd also recommend you consider a drug like Lamictal, as a mood stabilizer/antidepressant augmenter.
Lastly, although I know this has also been brought up before, it might help more if you told us what symptoms you're having trouble with. A general, "What should I try next?" type of question can only result in general answers. More specific questions result in more specific advice. You say in this post that you "lose it" in school, but you don't say what that means? Do you mean that you become overly emotional? That you have angry outbursts? That you have anxiety/panic attacks? That you have trouble concentrating? All of those can be "losing it" to some people, so offering a more specific idea of what you mean will likely help in getting more appropriate answers.
By the way, you asked some time ago about school in another thread. The same thing I'm suggesting above, about being a bit more clear in what you're asking here, would also be great advice for you in your school work. Remember that others may not have any background at all to explain what you're trying to say, and read over what you write as though it's the only information you have on the topic. If you can understand your point from that perspective, it's more likely others will also be able to understand it.
Finally, if stimulants are not appropriate for you -- and I agree with you on that point -- than Vyvanse isn't a great idea, since it is a stimulant. Potency isn't the issue here. The issue -- well, I think you've already described the issue in the past, so I will leave that be.
Good luck to you.
