Not only did it not put me to sleep (and made what little sleep I got really horrible), but the next day I was very agitated, had body shakes, hot and cold flashes, super sensitivity to caffeine, and found it hard to sleep at all the following night. Seemed to have the paradoxical opposite reaction to what it's supposed to do. I take Xanax, and I find that I can take a little extra Xanax and it helps me to sleep. I haven't tried any of the other sedative/hypnotics.
