In reply to Trileptal and Lamictal side effect similarities, posted by Sivart Rengaw on January 31, 2007, at 9:51:13
My husband was put on Tripleptal first for a mood stabilizer. It helped to stabilize his mood somewhat but had him literally falling all over the place - up and down stairs - and barely able to get out of the car. That was intolerable so another P doc put him on Lamictal where he's had much fewer side effects. I think there are some similarities - both are anticonvulsants - but different people have different effects.
We took my husband up at HALF the recommended rate on the Lamictal just to avoid problems.
If you notice you're having the same feelings it might be good to tell the P doc right away before anything distressing happens again. This might not be the class of Rx for you.
> A few years back my neuro(for epilepsy) put me on Trileptal on top of my dilantin. Can't remember the dose but I became suicidal and very emotionally unstable. So much in fact that I broke two doors off the hinges at my local City Hall's general assistance department. Fortunately I was dropped of the criminal mischief charges due to being taken off the trileptal the next day. They wouldn't budge on the restitution of 200. My neuro has started me on lamictal and I'm only at the 3rd week of gradually starting and have noticed similar effects starting. Was curious as to if anyone here knew if there are similarities with the two meds' side effects. I did some checking and believe the 2 are similar but hoping to get word from someone else, thanks
