There are inducers, inhibitors, and substrates.
An inducer clears another substrate drug out faster while an inhibitor retains it in your liver longer.
Inducers: Trileptal, carbamezapine, some barbiturates
Inhibitors: Luvox, macrolide antibiotics, ketoconazole and related antifungals, Serzone, some HIV protease inhibitors
Substrates: Xanax, Valium, Halcion, the anaesthetic sedative benzodiazepine Versed, and also the macrolide antibiotics, and some HIV drugs, calcium channel blockers, some statins (cholesterol drugs), OTC chlorpheniramine antihistamine, quinidine.
You can see the whole list of them and the clinically relevant ones athttp://medicine.iupui.edu/flockhart/
