In reply to has anyone tried marinol?, posted by CareBear04 on January 12, 2005, at 2:37:25
Hey. I've never been RX'd Marinol, but a friend of mine was given a prescription for a time...her problem was severe depression, and she had a history of eating disorders. She complained that sometimes her pharmacy was out of it, and occasionally they gave her dirty looks when she did fill her rx, but that was about it. Altough the FDA approved it primarily b/c of cancer patients, I think psychiatrists have recognized the potential for additional applications..my shrink talked to me about it during a depressive episode...I turned it down b/c I was worried about worsening my anxiety. You might think of talking about it with your doc as a test of her/his skill and professionalism...any worthwhile doc should consider appropriate application of available meds to a given condition, especially given the incredible leeway of off-label prescribing. It shouldn't be any "harder" to get an rx for this than for any other controlled substance, and your doctor should give you an explanation of his/her reasons for prescribing it or not.
