Suprisingly, the development of sibutramine as an antidepressant was discontinued due to apparant lack of efficacy in clinical trials.

I didn't know there was a lack of efficacy. The drug company developing the (R-) enantiomer of sibutramine as an antidepressant announced that they temporarily dropped the project for lack of funds. I don't know. I know of one doctor who swears by sibutamine. I would be quick to try it if there weren't so many restrictions on its use by my prescription plan. They require one to give details as to their height and weight to determine eligibility for coverage. I am not overweight enough to meet the requirements. I have no idea how Meridia costs.
