The proposed mechanism of these drugs is to activate the postsynaptic 5-ht1a receptor as much as possible.
Pindolol will augment an SSRI in almost a similar manner to lithium (which is also a presynaptic 5-ht1a autoreceptor antagonist like pindolol)
If pindolol is going to work to augment an SSRI, it will almost work immediately. By blocking the autoreceptors it blocks the shut off swich for serotonin release, and hence more gets released.
I have had sucess with lithium as an augmentation agent, and would like to see if pindolol works as well as lithium for this.
Buspar can take longer to work as agumentation since acting as an agonist it can take time to desensitize the autoreceptors, so essentilly you are upping the thermostat so to speak.
Anyhow, if pindolol augments an SSRI like lithium does, then I would give it my approval.
