Hi Mike,

I don't get by here often, but thought perhaps I might have something to add.

First of all, be sure you diagnosis is correct.
The book stores are full of current books on ADHD. The most popular is " You mean I'm not Crazy, Dumb, or Stupid"... something like that. :)

I'm confused about your Ritalin. You mean to say you take one 20 mg. tablet per day ?

Ritalin has a very short active period, which is different for each of us. I find it works two hours for me, though most can get 4 hours out of it.

One 20 mg. dose would put ME right to sleep. So you see how different we all are. I do see most comment that it works to stimulate them. Funny.. it's slows me down.
Whatever...

What you will find is it takes trial and error to find a correct dose, and the medication that works for you. You should not feel as you say you do, with the right med and dose.

Do yourself a favor, and don't start adding things to the med. That will only delay getting the correct situation going for you.

And remember... ADD drugs do not work magic. They will never solve an ADD problem alone. They are only one tool we have to use. It takes serious work at reexamining our lives, and how we do things. The meds can help us while we do the work.

Oh... a beta blocker is a heart medication, and also used to calm people during things such as stage fright. These patients take one and that's it.

Once this type of medication is used more than very occasionally, it must NEVER be stopped cold turkey as a serious heart attack can happen as a rebound effect. Yes... it is a prescription.

Please do not start adding and herbs or tonics, until you get this first medication straightened out. Your liver and your prescribing doctor will thank you for it.
