Klonopin is much easier to stop taking because it has such a long half life, but also can exacerbate depression. Xanax is probably the most addictive and most difficult to stop taking, but most effective to treat anxiety with comorbid depression.

If the klonopin is really making you quite depressed it might be worth a trial. Another good alternative might be ativan, has a very low side effect profile. No extended release version though so it would be taken 3 or 4 times daily.
