As a drug class, benzos are CNS depressants, therefore, they all have the potential to worsen depression. Some more learned folks would probably dispute that, but in my simple reasoning, I can't see where clinical level depression *could not* be the an effect of overall CNS depression. Due to the different formulations, some may be more likely than others. Most find Xanax the most "uplifting", however, only with the experience I know from friends and family, it seems to be one that folks can run into tolerance problems - that, of couse, can be said of them all.

My only long term experience is with Klonopin. Due to it's long halflife, it may indeed be the "worse" to potentiate depression. I can't speak to this very well as when my anxiety is ill controlled, my depressive symptoms like to show themselves. Treating my anxiety treats my depression, but, I think I'm a bit unique with that.
