In reply to My med combos--are they okay????, posted by Mandybella on August 12, 2004, at 17:06:58
> I had bariatic surgery two months ago and have had a very rocky course--don't do it!! My question is I take Wellbutrin, Lexapro, and Lamictal and they have kept depression in remission. Now Dr put me on Zofran for nausea and Ultram for pain. I understand they both affect serotonin like the anti-depressants. So can I take all this or am I asking for a bigger problem. My surgeon is useless and pharmacist said it is okay but I still would like opinion from some on this board who have experience with meds and reactions. Thanks so much

>Zofran is fine, you can actually use it to stop nausea caused by SSRI's when you first start them. Ultram, IMHO, isn't. It is a serotonin & norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor that is very closely related Effexor. Taking it & Lexapro together will likely lead to serotonin syndrome. If you are forced to use it, I would lower your Lexapro dosage to be safe. You would be much better off with oxycodone if you can get it.
