having problems, serotonin, selegiline ? MAO ?

Posted by LastDyingWish on April 15, 2004, at 21:26:56

Ok First off i want to say i think this site is awsome.. i recently came across this site and was blown away. I had no idea anything like this existed, I have been researching psychiatric drugs and they have become very interesting to me, but I had no idea there was a network of people discussing these topics. I have much respect for all of you and wish you all the best.

I have been having some problems for the last 3 years, after some serious drug use. I just want to get back to normal functioning. be happy sometimes. before i was really against taking ADs , but the more i learn, i think i could really benefit. I would like to know if anyone can reccommed anything. I dont think i have sleeping problems, but i never dream and never sleep past 7-8 hours, never really a deep sleep. most of the time i get really tense talking to people, especially in school, my movements become very rigid. I have a very low sex drive too, iam a 22 yr old male. I also tend to get anxious and worry alot. Maybe some mild OCD. I also have a hard time dealing with stress.
i used extacy for about 9 months every weekend. then got into speed for a few months. heavy drinking too.
so far iam considering selegiline. from the research ive done on the site i see that very few people have problems with it. iam not sure if the metabloites are nuerotoxic tho. does anyone know. can dopaminergics cause movement disorders later in life ?
Mirapex ? i have read a litte about it and think maybe this could be right for me.
also i have read claims that SSRIs eventually acitvate the mesolimbic dopamine system. maybe Lexapro ?
i know alot of you are very knowledgeable, i trust your opinions more than my psydoc. so any information will be helpful and much appreciated. Iam not sure if my probs are dopamine related or serotonin, or both.
