I agree--it is ok to split the standard Effexor tablet (not the XR capsule). When I was on regular Effexor, before the XR version came out, I think I took it in 2 doses. I remember that I had to be very punctual with the doses because if I wasn't, the physical feelings of withdrawal would set in pretty quickly. That is why I jumped at the chance to switch to the XR when it came out. But, I agree with K.V. that if someone needs a dose lower than the 75 mg that is the XR's smallest, the standard version is better. So it is probably best for beginning treatment and weaning off the med. Will you be able to get the XR version the next time you receive meds?
