Hi CPallen79,
My psychiatrist has told me that you CAN take prozac for anxiety. It will cause some additional anxiety when you first take it, but that goes away. And it's really easy to taper off of. I took prozac for 3-4 years and stopped cold turkey with NO side effects.
I'm currently on Lexapro for anxiety. I've heard that it causes severe dizziness if you go off of it too quickly. But some people taper off it very successfully. It's been pretty good for my anxiety.
Have you thought about looking into Benzos? (e.g. Klonopin, Xanax, Lorazepam) All of the meds I listed are outstanding for severe anxiety. However, they have a reputation for being addictive. You might try taking one on an as needed basis to help you through really bad days.
I hope some of these suggestions are useful!
K.
