Topamax and neck pain...

Have had this pain in my neck for over a week now ( no, not my husband!) Difficulty swallowing and there seems to be a small gland that may be swollen but no sore throat or hoarseness. Been reading that when one is on Topamax you should have your thyroid checked. Why?
