Hi all,
I'm new to posting so if I make any faux pas, please forgive me. I'm a BP 2 and had a horrific 4-month depression. I was on Neurontin at 900 mg per month (all in the evening). Sometimes it made me drowsy; sometimes it was just calming. But still the depression marched on. My Psych doc suggested trying Devakote. I asked him about switching to Topamax since I need to lose weight anyway. He said it was worth a try. However, he way overdosed me; having me start at 200 mg and ramp up quickly to 400 mg. It didn't take long to figure out that was WAY to much.
Now I'm down to 50 mg per day in the evening (none in the am since 25 mg makes me drowsy in the AM). I am going to try scaling back to 25 mg. I am also going to see my primary care to see if I am anemic. I am beginning to think that perhaps Topamax is just way too strong for me. I also take Celexa and Ativan for anxiety on a daily basis. I take Trazodone when the brain just won't shut down and let me sleep. Did I mention I have a high stress job and need all of my wits all day long!
Any words of wisdom about Topamax, Depakote for me?
