I was on Effexor for a year +, so it took me a while to get off it (about 4 weeks). But Lexapro made it much easier and I did not experience any of the usualy withdrawal symptoms to a severe degree. With regard to the Effexor, I went from taking 150 BID, to just 150 in the morning (week one), then to 150 every other morning (week 2), then to 75 mg every morning (week 3), finally to 75 mg every other morning (week 4). After this, I stopped taking it completely and never went back. Remember, the whole time I was taking Lexapro 10 mg per day. Occassionally, I would take 10 mg in the morning, and 10 mg later in the day if I felt some withdrawal symptoms coming on. I was also taking Klonopin PRN, but I found that I did not need it very often (maybe twice a week).
