My experience is essentially the same as that of MattDDS -- benzos work extremely well for panic and generalized anxiety, the side effects were minimal and wore off very quickly, and I'd recommend these drugs highly. I take 1 mg Klonopin daily, and Xanax when I need it (typically 0.25-0.50 mg, sometimes a few times a week, sometimes not at all for a week or two). I haven't had to increase the dose so far, after almost two years, and I find Klonopin and Xanax "self-limiting" in that if I take more than what works, they just make me sleepy -- I have no inclination to abuse them, and doubt that I could (I'd just fall asleep).
I had all sorts of problems with the antidepressants I've tried (SSRIs, Wellbutrin, etc.), even after long-term use with some. I do take Adderall for ADD as well, and I find it calming/focusing, but Klonopin (clonazepam )is my main-line med for anxiety and depression.
I take the Teva brand generics; once I changed pharmacies and got the pink clonazepam, and found it noticeably inferior to the Teva brand. But that could just be me.
