I suppose it's not an absolute contraindication, but I've come across a lot of studies warning against benzo use in borderlines. I think it had something to do with benzodiazepines increasing aggression/irritability. On the other hand, maybe Klonopin would be a little safer than some of the others.
As far as other drugs are concerned, I really know about as much as you! I've tried practically everything available (in the U.S.) for anxiety and nothing has worked aside from the benzodiazepines, though high-dose BuSpar has been somewhat helpful for me. re: Prozac, I really can't say how effective it is compared to the other SSRIs, for example, as I was only on a relatively low dose (20mg). I *can* say that side effect wise it was not nearly as problematic as the others, but YMMV.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help, my experiences in this area, while extensive, just haven't taught me much.
