BuSpar/Benzos-- need to be taken 1-2 hours apart?

Posted by Ame Sans Vie on January 21, 2003, at 6:28:20

In addition to the four benzos I take, my pdoc called in 120 15mg BuSpar Dividose tabs yesterday, as they seem to offer me some kind of 'background stability' (as I've heard others on this board describe the effects of Neurontin). Hopefully it will allow me to to at least bring down my Valium dose at least 20mg/day. But just one question-- when I picked up the prescription and read the package insert (which I *always* do), handwritten on the outside of it in ink was "This med must be taken 1-2 hours apart from your others." Well, I felt pretty good that they actually looked through my records so that they could provide me with such information ('thumbs up' to Walgreens =), but I'm just wondering what the reason for this is? Is it possibly due to competitive inhibition due to the metabolism of BuSpar and most benzos via the CYP3A4 enzyme? I'd just be curious to hear any speculation on this; if it *is* just a competitive inhibition issue, then I can basically disregard it... I'll just try taking lower doses as first.

Thanks in advance,
Michael
