Could anyone who has tried both meds for social anxiety tell me what they experienced with each medication? Which was more effective in making you feel less self-conscious? Effexor was effective in this regard for me in the past but I have just started Celexa and would like to know what to expect. (The Effexor eventually pooped.)
I am also wondering if Celexa (being classed as a gentle SSRI) might less conducive to feelings of paranoia than Effexor. (Effexor, being an SNRI prevents excessive reuptake of noradrenaline, which includes dopamine, the neurotransmitter responsible for paranoia.) Was wondering if Celexa might be the better choice in the long run as it might keep the dopamine levels a little lower.
I once read that there are two types of paranoia, one resulting from high dopamine (typical in those who actually believe that the world is malevolent and that everybody is against them) and one resulting from low dopamine (occurring in those who `feel' paranoid because of low self-esteem). I fit into the latter category( ie; am very trusting of other people but believe that I am so ridiculous that people could be forgiven for thinking I'm a freak!) Apparently, low dopamine paranoia occurs with the vitamin B3 depletion common in alcoholics. I drank alcoholically for four years and have only cut down in recent months.
Perhaps a combination of Celexa and vitamin B3 complex (3td) would be the best remedy for this situation?
Desperately seeking answers!
Thanks,Alara
