Hi,
I read your note and would like to offer whatever suggestion I could. I had my first anxiety/panic episode when I was in my mid teens, and then a real bad one occurred when I was 21. As you've seen from other people's posts, thereare plenty of drugs to choose from these days, but I think that what's equally important in your case is getting the right DOCTOR. You didn't mention what kind of doctor prescribed the Effexor. This is pretty powerful stuff.
It's not a good idea to use your family doctor or GP to evaluate psychological symptoms and decide on an appropriate medication.. While I would certainly agree that counselling can help, I hope that you have chosen a professional (psychiatrist) who is well-trained in anxiety, panic attacks, depression, etc. --a person who knows what would be best for a teenager. Good luck.
