I am not aware of any problems that would be caused by taking melatonin but I'm not an expert on it.

Do you want to take melatonin instead of Remeron? Is it because of your weight gain? If you stop Remeron, won't your anxiety or depression return?

If sleep is the biggest concern, Ambien is a good suggestion. It is safe for long term usage.
