This is extremely unlikely to happen to your friend, especially if she has not had liver problems in the past. The incidence of severe liver damage from Serzone is extremely low...one out of hundreds of thousands of people have such problems. While this is not something to be summarily dismissed, I hate seeing Serzone get such a bad rap, and especially detest seeing the leeching, hypocritical ambluance-chasers "reaching out" to "help" people who have been wronged by that mean old money-hungry drug company.
I would certainly recommend regular liver testing while on Serzone, but this is really the prudent thing to do with any ongoing drug therapy. In my own two years on Serzone -- taken in tandem with several drugs that it has metabolic interactions with -- I didn't see even the slightest hint of abnormality in the standard liver tests. In fact, one enzyme that was a little elevated pre-Serzone normalized while I was taking it.
