Both Desoxyn and Dexedrine are d-amphetamines. Obviously, two amphetamines will have similar effects. But methamphetamine has meth in it- which gets metabolized in the liver. Meth also binds to fat chains. Dexedrine does not have any meth in it whatsoever.
Desoxyn is *not* a cure-all. It should only be used in approved uses or off-label as a doctor sees appropriate. It use to be used in mild depression, and quite often in obesity treatment. Now, it is not often used in obesity treatment, but remains approved for marketing that benefit nonethless. It also needs to be avoided in those patients who have a history of drug abuse.
Desoxyn also has been used in ADHD, approved by the FDA for kids 6+. Abbot considers it as an under-marketed drug, and has partnered with Ovation to develop and market it.

Obviously, a company like Ovation that's supported by pension funds and is relying on a few drugs to make most of their profits from is not going to spend the lot of their $150 million in acquistion funding on a drug that "no doctor would ever prescribe."
