It's not just Remeron that can cause this. Stopping any antidepressant, even tapering off slowly, is going to cause a bumpy ride for awhile. It takes at least 3-6 weeks for the receptors to reestablish themselves. So in the meantime while you're white knuckling it, having some benzos around will help. Also, taking extra magnesium and calcium seems to help. If after a month or so you're still miserable then you may need the med.
The question is, do you need the med or is this just a symptom of 'coming down' off the med. I have this question as well, since I've never been able to stay completely free of any AD and have always had to go back on, even after 8 months off. I do wonder whether the AD actually fixes things or if indeed our neurological system becomes dependent upon them. I'm currently on Remeron and have found it to be my favorite of all the many ADs I've tried.
> I had been taking Remeron for one year. After slowly tapering over several months, I finally stopped it altogether twelve days ago. I am still experiencing anxiety and now a return of feeling depressed again. Is this something that given some more time might pass or does it sound like I need to restart the meds??? I would like to be off the meds but has anyone experienced this and then had these feelings resolve? If so how long did it take? Thanks for your help.
