Ben was taking 1 mg. risperdol p.m. (along with tegretol and zoloft) and was doing fairly well. He is autistic and the doc says he is also bipolar. He seemed a little agitated to me, so we increased the risperdol to 1.25 mg. He got VERY agitated and obsessive. We cut down and he seemed better. Went to see the pdoc the other day, he says to switch to zyprexa. We add 2.5 mg. zyprexa and Ben gets SOOOOOOO agitated,,,, I have decided to not give it to him anymore. Everyone says it is so rare (almost impossible) that Ben gets agitated from zyprexa/risperdol. Obviously, that is not the case. I am almost thinking about cutting down on the risperdol! Does anyone have any ideas for us? Klonopin made him agitated too. The only thing that ever helped was tegretol, and it seems that when we dosed his zoloft 2 x during the DAY it made a huge difference! (thanks to you guys on this board!). By doing that, it calmed hime down. So I guess I was wondering if anyone can explain to me what these drugs (zyprexa/risperdol) do to cause him more ocd/agitation and if there is something that I can give him to counteract this.
thanks
