In reply to meds and suicide, posted by LiLi80 on March 4, 2002, at 7:22:59
Hi, A/Ds can help with suicidal thinking/rumination but often they don't, as the other posters to this thread have testified. I was on Trimipramine and would think quite a few times a a week about suicide. Then I started reboxetine [along with the trimipramine] and for 2 weeks, I could not think of anything else but suicide. I knew I would not do it, because of my parents, but it was a very sudden and frightening progression.
Then, after 2 weeks on reboxetine, it subsided as soon as it started. Since I stopped Trimipramine, I rarely think about suicide.
So it looks as though A/Ds made my suicidal thinking worse BUT [and this is something I always find frustrating] I will never know how I would have been without the A/Ds. I could easily have been worse.
As for my message - I guess I'm trying to say that meds don't always help but you will never know how things would have been without them.
Best wishes,
pete.
