Going off Effexor...to Zoloft

My son (no, I am not the only one)has been on Effexor for several months for depression. He has not been doing well, really no change..so he is going to go on Zoloft. He went down from 150mg to 75mg on Friday, 3 days ago. He is dizzy and nauseated, has even thrown up.He is supposed to start Zoloft next week when on 37.5mg of Effexor.
Any thoughts? Would the Zoloft help the withdrawal effects? I think they might, or maybe Xanax?
