I suppose if someone needed to find an agent against PTSD that was not addicting-- but also has the benefit of antidepressant qualities-- then they could take buspirone (http://www.dr-bob.org/tips/split/Buspirone-for-anxiety.html).
Prophylaxis against nightmares can be reduced pharmacologically by adding a variety of agents. Though this may be innocuous to keep adding medications to daily regimens, oftentimes it works--as with trazodone and amitriptyline (http://www.dr-bob.org/tips/split/Post-traumatic-dreams.html) (http://www.dr-bob.org/tips/split/Vivid-antidepressant-dream.html).
