I think ADs get you over that hump where you are stuck in un-productive cyclical thinking. Then you can cognitively start putting your life together. But I know that when I was deeply depressed I couldn't begin to make changes in my life because I could barely function! I remember that just getting up to turn off the light or lifting the covers over myself was a tremendous effort. I never would have been able to get to the point I'm at now in my life without the aid of an antidepressant.
