Hi:
My wife has been suffering from anxiety for many years. She's found relief on occassion, and things were ok over the last year, but life has changed recently. Several months ago, we moved back to an area that was the setting of an awful period for her -- intense anxiety, drinking, ambulances, breakdown, etc -- and now, she has started to sink into a deep depression. The anxiety is with her, usually at night, but it isn't as bad as before. However, the depression is really unchartered territory for us. She says that there are reminders of her dark days everywhere, and that she can practically taste her lowness.
She will be beginning an anxiety disorders program at the University of Michigan a week from today (anybody know of it --- positive or negative experiences?). We've been doing research on possible new ADs. She has been on a number of them in her life, but has been pretty stable with Neurontin and Trazadone (at night, for sleep), for close to the last 2 years. It appears that she'll need something different at this point. There has been a lot written about Effexor on this board (and Andrew Solomon speaks quite highly of it in his book). Anyone know how it might interact with Neurontin or Trazadone? We were planning to visit her parent in CA around Christmas -- anyone know if it is safe to fly on Effexor, if she's only been on it a week or so?
Thanks much. I find this bulletin board very helpful, and many of the writers very thoughtful. My wife is in a very dark place right now, and I'm really struggling to do or say anything that might be helpful.
Best,
JeffJ
