HI:
Well, I don't think I can give "expert" advice...but I will give you my 2 cents, like everyone else.:-)
What I would say you might want to focus on right now is 1) getting a *good* doctor, and 2)focus on symptoms rather than your general disorders. (I don't like that word...but...you know what I mean.)
OK...are you still on the Paxil? This med, like any a.d., can trigger manic symptoms. You may be able to manage to get by with either smaller doses of an a.d., and/or an a.d. and mood stabalizer. BUT...as you can see on this board, that is *no* guarantee that combo will work for you. Here in Canada, it is common to start a person off with a benzo and an SSRI, but again I say it's best to consult a doctor, because there may be issues around 'boderline-personality' and benzo use.
There are many SSRI's, and there are differences. What you need is to be able to try some different ones...but under a doctors care. As everyone has shown on here, there are good and bad to all of them. They may be your best bet for first-line treatment, because of both their safety, and being a bit more tolerable than other a.d.'s.
With the SSRI's...and my doc has said this...it is really the 'luck of the draw'. You may have to go through a few until you find one that not only helps your symptoms, but you can tolerate.
That's about the best I can say...as I really think you need a doc to help you with your symptoms, and each illness.
Please let us know how you make out!
Best...
Jay
> Hi this is my first time posting in here for a while. I come here sometimes and browse through some of the threads. My main problems are social phobia and borderline personality. In the past I have been diagnosed with depression, tourrett's syndrome, ocd, borderline personality, anti-social personality and social anxiety. I am very concerned about finding the right drug for my problems. I was on paxil for 2 years, this drug was a life saver but it made my bpd worse. I don't know why I stayed on this drug for that long but I was recently diagnosed with antisocial and borderline personality disorders; my last 2 diagnosis.
> I need to find a drug that will treat all of my problems including bpd. Are there any other srri's that treat social phobia as well as paxil does? I need something that doesn't make bpd worse. Expert advice needed!!!
