I was first diagnosed as being depressed about 3 years ago (not only depressed, but "dysthymic"... constant, low-level depression). I then started Wellbutrin and things bascially got better and after about 2 years I stopped taking it.
Then after about 9 months, my depression came back. That was one year ago. I went back on Wellbutrin (400mg/day) and things only kinda got better. Then almost 3 months ago, I started taking Celexa (40mg/day).
Withing a few weeks, I started feeling better than I ever have in my entire life. That may sound melodramtic, but its true. I found myself actually feeling happy and content for no apparent reason -- a first for me.
I really believed, for the first time, that my depression was more a function of brain chemistry than external events.
But then two weeks ago, I stopped feeling so good. Maybe it's just a coincidence, but two weeks ago, I went out dancing with friends and did some GHB (which I'd done 2 or 3 times before since being on the Celexa, without problem).
I started feeling bad mood-wise within a day or two... but I thought only because I had gotten sick: I had a very bad case of strep and missed several days of work.
I got over the strep, but still feel not only down, but depressed.
It doesn't seem likely that that night of GHB use threw off my brain chemistry for so long, right?
And if that's not what happened, why has Celexa stopped being effective so soon?
I was really getting used to having a "normal" baseline mood and want it back! :-)
What should I do?
