Hi Noah.
Another reason schizophrenia may appear to blight the poor is that, as Cam says, the condition is not conducive to productivity , especially when, as is so often the case, patients are *inadequately treated*. How many CEOs do you think have schizophrenia? When I knew rather less about psychiatry than I do now (still v little) I brought up the possibility of Schizoaffective disorder with my pdoc. He liked me & said he would never put such a thing on my record (unless of course it was a rock-solid dx). For one it would bar me from many avenues of employment and also, were I ever to get in trouble (likely with my inner rage) it would most definitely count against me.

People are scared by mental illness generally, and particularly of schiz. The fact is people with yr condition (assuming you've been dx'd correctly) suffer massive discrimination. Especially in the jobs mkt. Hence poor man syndrome.

Please don't fall for the 'natural' cure line. I've wasted too much money on various vitamins & supplements for depression. If it sounds too good to be true it most probably is. Good luck,
J.
