In reply to Withdrawls: Help Need Some Advice?, posted by celest on July 12, 2001, at 22:38:31
Hi, I know just how you feel - "been there, done that" but with Paxil. I figured out on my own that I was having withdrawals just based on what I know about withdrawal from heroin and alcohol that I've seen in MOVIES!! And it was confirmed when I found this site also/thank you.
I TOTALLY AGREE with you - the Dr.s are NOT totally aware of these withdrwal symtoms. I printed out a sheet to give my pdoc which has a chart of withdrawal symptoms from a Paxil Withdrawal website (can you believe there is a site, more than one in fact, on WITHDRAWAL from it?!!)
My advice would be if you can bear with it a little while longer, do so, and it WILL pass. I'm waaaaaaay past a few horrible, scary weeks of withdrawal from Paxil and am glad I didn't go back on it. HOWEVER, if you just can't stand it any longer, I've heard that going on the lowest dose (which would be 37.5 mg for Effexor, which I am on 75 mg right now and plan to taper off) for at least a week, and then even opening the capsule and sprinkling half in juice or something for a few days should help. Just curious - WHY did you decide to go off Effexor and how high a dose were you on for how long? For me, Effexor is doing little good and maybe increasing anxiety stuff. Good luck. Let me know here what you decide to do.
