I have similar questions that you do. I don't get hypomanic as much as I go into an uncontrollable rage for the 2 weeks before my period (maybe it is hypomanic???). I am ALWAYS surprised when I do get my period after this 10-14 days of hell for me, my loving dog and my partner.
I get so mad and so frustrated at times, I feel out of control, like I may lash out. And the 2 mood stabilizers/SSRI/Benzo combo that works ok, doesn't work at all during the long pms thing.
Like you, I think it's some hormone out of wack. But I don't know where to go for help on this kind of thing. My pdoc don't seem to think this is too out of the ordinary for me. I have had years of cycling moods and depression. And my gyn just wants to try different b/c pills. Estrogen makes me crazy, literally.
If you are having blood drawn, you may want to see if you can get some hormone levels drawn as well. I don't know your age, but if you are in your thirties or forties, it may be appropriate. Also, have you tried any b/c pills? For some, they are a miracle cure. Also, and SSRI, like Zoloft or prozac (Sarafem) have helped some women. I am not sure why your doc would start with the mood stabilizers...They sure don't put a lid on me!
I'd be curious how you make out.
Take care!

> Any ladies out there experience symtoms during their menstal cycle? I stay up all night, am extra crabby. thoughts race. This starts around the 12-14th day of my menstral cycle. When I am ovulating. Lasts 4-5 days then the rest of the month I am just regular manic me.
> 2 therapist, 1 MD, one psychiatrist and husband/family say meds- Neutronin or Topomax.
> I am still in denial that this problem that I have had for YEARS should be treated with these meds and think this problem I have is just hormonal and should be treated different. MD said hormones exerbate the problem. Asked MD to run thyriod function test and next week am seeing a homopathic/MD.
