I have been reading the posts and wanted to provide a positive story.
I am a 32 year old woman. I am taking effexor XR (extended release) at 75.5mg. I started on 35.5mg at one week. I am being treated for mild depression and chronic pain related to a sporting injury.
This is my second time on effexor - by CHOICE - not due to withdrawal symptoms.
This first time I was on it for three months. I tapered for a week at 35mg. Two days after my last pill I experienced some dizziness and sweating. I phoned the doctor and was told that this is typical and it would go away in about 5 days. She was right. The sysmptoms cleared up in 5 days.
Seven months later I have decided that I wanted to be on the drug again due to a set back with the injury. Same plan - 35mg for a week and then 75mg. Things are going well.
I am shocked at some of the reported doses in this forum. 300mg? 600mg? I would think that the amount of the drug would have some relation to the withdrawal symptoms. I plan on staying on the drug for 4 or 5 months. I will let you know what the withdrawal experience is the second time around. Based on my experience of going on and off the drug I have reccommended it to others. I do have a friend who has been on it for 2 years and is unable to go off due to the symptoms described in many of the postings.
Best of luck to all of you.
