In reply to Cognitive changes after discontinuing effexor?, posted by Gersch on April 3, 2001, at 14:32:58
I'm willing to bet that these "cognitive changes" are just a result of the return of anxiety after discontinuation of Effexor. I don't know if I will ever be able to convince you, but anxious people make more mistakes, can't remember simple things, and are irritable, too.
{I was on extremely high doses of Effexor XR that could kill an elephant: 600 mg HS. It didn't do anything for my depression, but it may have removed my anxiety. Anxious symptoms returned after I went cold turkey on Effexor--I never had withdrawal symptoms.}
> Has anyone experienced cognitive changes immediately after discontinuing effexor, namely difficulties with concentration, attention, vigilence, and memory? Are these difficulties simply a phase or part of the discontinuation process, or must I rely on Effexor for years to come in order to maintain functional thinking skills?
