Avoet,
The negative thoughts (almost obsessions, when depressed) have varied during different depressive episodes. I've repeated similar themes over a few years of episodes, then moved on to something else for a few years. At one time, they were similar to those you mentioned, but that hasn't been the case for years.
This leads me to conclude that it is not the content of the thoughts that matters, as much as my inability to put them in perspective when I am down. I know that when I feel up, they may still bother me at times but don't seem as constant and overwhelming. That has led me to focus on treating the depression, maybe neglecting other symptoms and approaches.
Unfortunately, my doc has not really pursued the link between rapid cycling and SSRI's (Celexa in particular) yet. Before I started taking SSRI's, I had some mild ups and major downs, but never sudden changes back and forth. I started on Paxil 8 years ago and the moods shifted a little higher, but didn't cycle rapidly. Four years ago, I was diagnosed as being very hypothyroid after going through a hypomanic phase. Then Paxil stopped working for depression. I switched to Celexa and soon started the rapid cycling. After trying several other ADs (Effexor, Wellbutrin, Celexa again) with mixed results, I started on Depakote last December. I had gone off the Celexa in November, and soon fell into a deep depression. The Zoloft was prescribed for that in January. I'm doing better, but I'm still having rapid cycling, although dampened. So, I don't know of a good combo yet. I hope you and your doc find one. If you do, please let me know!

> Chaston, What kind of negative thoughts do you have? I rapid cycle on Celexa too. What is your cycling like? Risperidal has helped me alot but the Celexa has been screwing things up I think. Risperidal is great for general restlessness and anxiety. Does your doctor think you will cycle on the Zoloft? My doctor is taking me of AD's all together. He thinks they are hurting me more than helping me. That may not be true for you though. I would give Risperidal a try if you are thinking about it. I have had minimal weight gain - maybe four or five pounds. Hope to hear from you.
