Risperdal is significantly different from amisulpride. Amisulpride is a potent D2/D3 receptor antagonist.

Risperdal is a relatively weak D2 receptor antagonist. It is a potent 5-HT2A and 5HT7 antagonist. Also has a strong affinity for alpha 1 & 2 andrenergic and histimine H1 receptors. Not noted for weight gain like Zyprexa.

Low dosage range is 4 to 10 mg./day. 6mg. generally being more effective than the higher doses. Doses of 6 mg.s and lower a day greatly decrease the likelihood of EPS.
