I was on a high dose of 8mg of klonopin a day (four 2mg
tablets a day) for general anxiety. I was on this dose
for four years, much to long and to high a dose. When
I decided to taper off, my psychiatrist gave a humane
program of tapering off a 1/4 gram (.25 gram) a week over
7 months. I was fine until I got down to under 1 gram.
But I was on such a heavy dose for so long. I got dizzy
spells, anxiety, and insominia. Flu like symptoms too.
So I actually got all the way off for 10 days, but felt
terrible. cpouldn't focus and still felt dizzy and very
anxious. So I went back on a very low dose of .5 mg
three times a day. I also started taking an antidepressant
that helps anxiety called serzone. It has little side
effects unlike paxil or others. Exercise is extemely
important along with group therapy discussing anxiety!
But it's important to taper slowly and find a level that
you can funtion at, and finaly, without klonopin at all.
Please email me at kutmills@hotmail if you have questions
about my taper. Its not easy and not fun, but doesn't
have to be a nightmare. Good luck.
