If you want to try Deseryl, ask your doctor to fill out the form. It's not that big a deal and, if she documents that other things haven't worked including generic trazadone, the HMO may well approve it. Mine has approved a couple of drugs that they don't automatically pay for. It's your right to have effective treatment, so don't let the HMO rules or your doctor's preference to avoid paperwork to get in your way!

The generics of this drug can be very different. What's more, the drugs purchased by pharmacies are based on cost at the time of purchase and, as a result, generic manufacturers can be different at any given time you refill your prescription. The trazodone you received last month may not be the same as the trazodone you purchase this month and, as you've discovered, that can be a big problem. Now, you CAN call around before you fill your prescription and ask which pharmacies use the generic brand you want but that assumes, of course, that: (1) you know which generic works for you and which doesn't';(2)you know the name of the manufacturer who produces the generic; and (3) the pharmacist will tell you if and when they change manufacturers so you can switch to a pharmacy that carries the brand you desire.
