I've tried wellbutrin (works for smoking, but made me anxious) and I'm now on effexor and not really happy (but not clinically depressed any more either). Thing is that for the first year that plebian, unglamourous prozac worked just great.

I was on Prozac for many years - 7, I think. Started at 20 mg., then up to 30 then 40 mg. My depression started to get worse and worse. I got a consult to see a psy from my GP. My first.
That was weird. In about thirty minutes I went from being depressed to Bipolar and Psychosis NOS. And then a whole slew of meds that really f--ed me up, including Topamax, Wellbutrin, Paxil, Effexor, and Zoloft.
After two more vists with that doc, (who became quite defensive when I asked her to explain how she got her diagnosis and couldn't it possible be anxiety or hypoglycemia) she transferred my care to another psy who thought perhaps some Lithium and Zyprexa would be nice. All this after I told him I didn't feel the diagnosis was right. That's when I had to put the breaks on the whole med business, stay in weekly touch with my therapist - who by the way was apalled (sic) by my experience. I took myself off everything
but the Zoloft. It's only been a week so I don't know if it's helping. I know all the meds in a two month time didn't help and the two doc's really weren't too interested in my physical or environmental (home) concerns. It was one big SYMPTOM-CHASE. I guess I'll tell the second psy guy about it again in two weeks. This has been just awful - and I all do is cry - and can't understand what's up with these doctors and why they don't listen to you. It's like you're not even in the same room with them.
Wow - Guess I got off the track. Yes the Prozac pooped out. Sorry I wandered - flight of ideas and all that!
Thanks for letting me talk about it. Brenda
