Effexor versus XR

I'm having a very hard time getting my depression under any kind of control. Losing my job didn't help but that's another story.

Last year, I tried Effexor XR and soon came a case of the itchies that was unbearable. My psychopharm. at the time said we needed to disc. it immediately.
Too bad, otherwise it was working very well. My question is this: Could the non extended release not cause this? Is the allergy related to the dye used, the drug itself, or possibly something to do with the
extended release component? Any ideas?
