In reply to ttm/ocd anything new?, posted by dianels on November 2, 1999, at 18:59:42
I'm going to assume you are. High levels of Prozac very often helps. The addition of fenfluramine with your SSRI may help you further. If you don't have another impulse control disorder, then you could also try Anafranil (it's a TCA). Sometimes the addition of neuropleptics or lithium may also help to control impulses.
Unfortuneately, there are no magical cures for this disorder. I've had it since I was 6 years old. Often people who do this will have another underlying disorder (depression, borderline personality diorder)
My underlying disorder is ADHD, and I practise ttm whenever my body is still and I am alone, or whenever my ADHD mind is 'out of control'.
Two things have helped my ttm.
1. running for 1 & 1/2 hours a day.
2. Dexedrine - a stimulant for my ADHD - I don't even pull on it, but I compulsive touch my hair.Even on your prozac, it could take a few months to notice a difference. Good luck, Janice
I hope I'm on the right topic!
