I don't know about taking HTP with your drug. But I took it in combo with St Johns wort and as a mood stabilizer I found it extremely effective. I was taking 1 mg of Klonopin at the time. But the effect only lasted for about 3 months. There are studies coming out that that is all it is good for. (Actually, that was about St Jouhnswort, not 5 HTP. But I stll had the same effect.) SO I stopped taking it without noticing any difference.
