You could try the doxylamine prepartation of Unisom. I think it produces less hangover. At least one person here prefers it to diphenyhdramine (Benadryl).

diphenyhdramine (Benadryl) is what I used to take. I find it helpful specially when I'm having really bad cold. I'll take it before I go to sleep and when I wake up, feels like nothing happened to me.
