What, if any, are the symptoms of Lyrica withdrawal?

Hi moviemom,

I was prescribed Lyrica for nerve pain from a broken arm, but I kept taking it because it helped with anxiety that I was also experiencing, although I didn't tell my doctor this.

What I experienced even after tapering down from 900mg to 100mg, was extreme anxiety, irritability, extreme insomnia, alternating being very hot and sweaty to cold and shivery, loss of appetite, large weight loss. I actually had to go on a diazepam taper to get off the stuff. The last 100mg was especially hard. I felt bad for the better part of a month.

I actually think the withdrawal might have partially precipitated my latest depressive episode, but I have no proof, just a theory. It was a horrible experience, but apparently most people have an easier time quitting than I did.

Your mileage may vary...

What are you experiencing?

Thanks for your response. I'm experiencing the same symptoms you are. I'm just trying to verify if it's Lyrica withdrawal or something else. What tapering schedule did you use?

I reduced from 900 to 100mg by reducing 100mg every 3 days. (This was way too fast in retrospect) Then I got stuck on 100mg for a while. Eventually, with the help of diazepam I reduced that 0mg. That took another month of tapering both drugs. Not fun, but I got through it.

I have about the same symptoms as both of you. This is one of the worst withdrawal ever. High-dose Lyrica = addiction.. especially if you had a little buzz from it (euphoria).

I find it very hard... I wonder if there's something else one can take to help, apart from benzos.... any idea ?
