I've been on multiple opiate narcotics to help with my chronic migraine pain. I recently changed insurance and had to change doctors. Meaning I can no longer go to my semi-competent pain specialist.
New Dr. has switched me to Opana ER 20 mgm once a day from Ultram ER 300 mgm and Lorcet (10mgm) 2x day. He has me taking only one dose a day of opana which sucks because opana only lasts for 12hrs. So for half the day I go through withdrawl.
I'm having a lot of trouble conviencing him he needs to up it to twice a day but he really doesn't want to. (Despite the fact that dosing info is clearly what's listed in the prescribing section on the Opana website.)
I've been through withdrawl before (Methadone, Duragesic, Avinza) and it's always been through doctors not knowing what an "equianalgesic" dose it. I wish I could find something weaker with fewer side effects that works, but it is what it is.
Bottom Line:
1)Anyone have any good advice on talking what could be a egotistical doctor about prescribing meds correctly?
2)Anyone have any good rememdies for opiate withdrawl?
For those who've been through it, you know how awefully uncomfortable it is. I'm mainly interested in a cure for the rapid shift in body temp.
3) I'm always willing to listen to any suggestions for helping with chronic migraines. I've tried practically everything, but will do anything else.
Thanks to all.

You mean the chills?

I think I've heard that tianeptine may be useful for this? It might be worth looking into.
It is an AD that is sometimes OK for recovering alcoholics, and it has been good for me.

Yes the chills but I also get very feverish feeling and sweaty. Sometimes I get both, and I get cold sweats.
They have given me meds like clonidine before for help with the withdrawals. They were helpful in that they made me sleep through most of the worst of it (and anyone who's been through this knows that aweful insomnia is one of the side effects).
I'm really looking more along the lines of "at home" or easy, homeopathic types of help. Since the reason I got into withdrawl is usually the doctor's fault (such as changing me from one med to the another that isn't of equal strength).
Again, thanks to anyone who can provide assistance.

Well, I tried everything from Traditional Chinese Medicine to western herbs, exercise, amino acids, I don't know what.
Maybe herbs are the best and acupuncture from the right person can be good .
Kratom is said to be helpful, though I haven't tried it.
Then there are safe herbal sedatives like skullcap, zizyphus, lemon balm.
Theanine was a little helpful, as perhaps was 5htp.But as you know, it is very difficult to find anything that really helps.
I never tried clonidine, not having heard anything good about it. Sounds better than I'd thought.
This is the end of the thread.
